Like the pencil design, though not the same as shown, due to its design. Have had constant issues with pencil style shown.As for the Rafter Square, I find it more useful than my last one, hence the 5 star rating. Though the plastic base does worry me on extended use.Will definitely buy again when needed.

Comments following review but prior to actual use:1. Rafter square was received with full size carpenter’s pencil and spare multi-colored lead.2. Squarea. Appears very well fabricated from good quality aluminum – 3/16″ flat stock with solid aluminum and mechanically anchored buttress – heavy in weight and duty.b. All measurements/gradations are etched on both sides prior to finish for durability and longevity – high contrast and very legible plus accurate when randomly checked.c. Numerous measurement options provide indentations for easy scribing.d. Buttress provides common etched conversion rise/run/degree measurements.e. Many uses – ruler, tri square, miter square, rafter square, protractor, scribe, saw guide – all as advertised and possibly more.f. Solid build with many accurate measuring options in a small package – Very Handy.3. Carpenter’s (mechanical) pencila. Fabricated from plastic/metal and appears reasonable quality.b. The quality is there. It is bulky and heavy. It seems to weight as much as 3 Swanson speedsquares. Lots of marking pull points. Overkill for framing, but probably good for a shop apron doing rough carpentry. Definitely feels like it will last a lifetime.
