Thick Line – Overall Medium Quality Product
I have some other products from Ox Tools that are very good quality. This chalk line? Not bad, but not top quality. I have another metal chalk line I’ve owned for 30 years. This Ox chalk line just does not compare.Be aware this product does not include any chalk. Chalk is cheap, but that will be another added cost. The actual line is very thick compared to some chalk lines I’ve used… so if that is important to you, that is a plus. It is very bulky compared to my old one, but part of that is due to the thicker line. Fairly priced.

Good chalk line.
This is a good quality chalk line from Ox. It has a nice thick line and a good quality hook that holds on well to what you’re using. The item itself is a little larger than the one I have but it’s easy to hold on to. Although it is plastic, the handle itself is made of metal and it cranks very nice. It is a nice blue color which is easy to spot if you set it down on the job and actually seems kind of rugged. The item itself does not come with chalk but for the price point, I think it is a good value.

Cheap plastic but still worth it
It’s made of a really cheap plastic that gets covered in chalk easily. It’s cheap so you get what you pay for. It’s a 1to1 ratio as well so it rolls up slow but easy. If you’re new and want something cheap, just go for it, you always break your first chalk line anyways.

MONSTER Chalk Line Reel
I am more of a ‘woodworker’ (aka ‘millwork’) than a construction sort, but I’ve built more than a few things in my day, some of which required a nice, straight chalk line and the OX Tools Trade Single Gear Thick Line Chalk Reel is just the thing I needed in my handyman tool bag.What I like: It’s HUGE when compared to most other chalk line reels. It holds a lot of chalk so you won’t be stopping to get more chalk when the line starts to fade. I also like the fact that the string is thick. When you pop a line, you can definitely see it clearly. The tab at the end of the string is nice and sturdy with a small hook on it, making it easy to use without an assistant. It hooks on and holds nicely. Lastly, the retraction of the string is fast and efficient.Caveats: None really. It doesn’t come with chalk, but I expected that so it didn’t catch me off guard.
