Are you in the market for a self-chalking chalk line? How about one that comes with chalk powder? If it were in a grippy ABS case with a 6:1 gear ratio, would that interest you? If so, OX Pro has what you’re looking for!The OX Pro 100ft 6:1 gear Chalk Line with 4oz of Chalk Powder pretty much comes with what the title says. The packaging comes with the ABS case and line and a bottle of blue chalk. Simply squeeze the chalk into the case, shake, pull the line, snap, and reel in the line is all there is.The line ends in a stainless steel claw that will softly grip most things with an edge. The 100 feet of chalk line is a cotton and nylon woven line that does have a lot of strength. The rubber grip on the case is tacky and easily hold-able unless you have small hands. The gear is fairly silent and winds well.However, the line does not hold chalk well, and the blue chalk is very hard to see on dark surfaces. The gearing is also a slow wind-up, so for your larger projects, you’ll be winding for a while. Once disassembled, be very careful to keep an eye on the brass eyelet. If you don’t get this re-installed right, it will garble up your line every time.Overall, if you are using the line on light wood, find a way to shake A LOT of chalk on the line, and ensure you re-assemble the case correctly (there are no directions), you’ve got a really good chalk line. But it may take some time to get that working right. This line is probably going to be good for home-repair and small jobs, but might not be up to the task of large construction ones. I recommend with caveats!

Great design
This is a great chalk box. When you lift the crank from the housing, it automatically unlocks the line reel; after you’ve snapped your line and you’ve reeled the line back in, and you connect the crank back into its housing, it automatically locks the reel. Also, the reel-locking gear system is internal (inside the housing for the crank), so it’s less likely to get dirty and get chalk on it.

I like the feel of the unit and the possibilities of this chalk box, but after a month of normal use, the winding arm has already broken off and ice already had to cut the string twice because knots definitely appear out of nowhere in the string, and a knot will not roll into the body of the chalk box when winding it back up. I wouldn’t say this is the best tool for a carpenter like myself that keeps his chalk box in his tool belt. Maybe it’ll work better for your wife while she’s out there working in her she shed or something?
