much better than the “patent pending” utility knives out there
We have just moved in to an apartment and so we have lots of boxes coming in to furnish the place. I really wanted a box cutter and so I bought one that looked alright on Amazon. It said “patent pending” and it was an American design and yadda-yadda-yadda. That utility knife was SCARY. I watched the video on how to use it…the blade did not retract which I did expect, but there was a lock for the blade and it was hard to open and extremely hard to close again. There was misalignment with the pieces. At this point, we’re all saying, that’s why the patent is still pending – it’s a bad design. It also had a safety case…with HOLES in it so you can properly send yourself to the ER. What was worse was that I picked it…and my husband and father were like…yeah, return this. (I also noticed that there were other similar products that also had the “patent pending” and they were all the same but by different companies (not just sellers).THIS product is MUCH BETTER. There is nothing like good ol’ Black and Decker. It retracts and while it doesn’t fold…it feels good in the hand and it’s way safer to use. It also comes in a pack of two! So one for me and one for myself! I like using this for cutting boxes, cutting sterlite containers (bad idea), string, wall paper, arts and crafts, etc. It sounds silly, but I was considering this as a wedding gift for a cousin – one for him and one for her!I also helped set up a wedding and I brought one of these puppies with me in my girly-girl purse with some twine and duct tape and this knife helped make something beautiful.

Not Comfortable in my hand
I had another brand of utility knife that I loved and it was stolen. I looked on my previous orders to re-purchase it, but it was no longer available. I read quite a few reviews before I purchasing a new utility knife and I was debating between this black and decker and another one called Internet Best utility knife or some name very similar to that. The review on that other knife was mostly positive, but one fellow complained at the rubber handles were a slippery plastic and the knife had no compartment to store blades in the handle.,which was the main reason I chose the black and decker. The black and decker had blade storage in the handle as well as a cord cutter so I chose them. When they arrived, I was a bit disappointed. The rubberized handles are just as slippery as plastic would be. The knife is a too heavy in my hand. I’m going to keep them, but I wish I had made a different choice. I trust the name black and decker, which was another reason I chose these. It’s a good knife and most will be happy with it. It’s just not what I expected.

I’ve thrown out others and replaced them with these. Stores at least 5 blades in the easy to access compartment in the handle, BUT nothing opens accidentally.

These beyond by BLACK+DECKER Utility Knives are the worst I’ve ever used.While they look Sturdy and are advertised to have quick blade changes, they are very poorly designed and very DANGEROUS to use. Although it sounds and appears easy to change the blades, the blades are very difficult to lock in place, and, even after they are locked in place, they pop out of the utility knife during use. I used this utility knife 5 times, and all 5 times the blade came flying out when I was in the middle of making a cut.
