After reading all the reviews, good and bad, I decided to give this a try.I struggled a little bit with the idea that I’m spending a good amount of money on a deck only to “cheap out” on the fasteners. For reference, we used Decorators Voyager decking.In the grand scheme of things, $450 didn’t seem like a huge price tag for the recommended brand name fasteners. But that’s alsmot 3x the price of this for about half the amount.I purchased a small pack of the name brand to compare, and they appear almost identical in every way, other than markings of course, so I decided to take a chance.After installing the first hundred or so, I didnt notice any issues. The screws went in fairly easy using the included T15 bit (only 1 bit included with a 1000 pack, SMH…), and the clips appear to hold the material securely.It wasn’t until I came across an uneven joist or stringer that I managed to crack one of the clips, and after roughly 300 screws, the bit finally wore out and started stripping, so off to the big box stores for a replacement we went.I ended up using about 700 clips with only a few broken ones most likely due to over tightening.Overall, I would recommend this product but would advise of the following–Buy a nicer T15 bit because the only one included will strip out.- Do not over tighten the screws. The clips WILL break.- Don’t buy the installation tool… It’s not absolutely necessary, and the it doesn’t hold the clips in very well.

I got this tool for a set of stairs i made for my porch. It was easy to use and lined the bit up to make perfect holes. I only had to use it for about a dozen screws, but it seems more than durable enough to last a long time. This tool is easy to use and makes the job go quickly , saving me time and money.

Looks great and less $ than lumber yard
Im only testing it right now while I wait for my decking to be delivered.Looks just as good as the brand name stuff at the lumber yard and way less expensive.Easy to adjust the handle.The clips fit in perfectly.The screws are well made stainless and work nicely into the holder for quick Easy fastening.No over driving the screws or putting them in at an angle.

Decent name brand alternative
This hidden fastener tool is handy when pushing the fasteners against a board to start your next row. I did have a difficult time getting the handle rotated and secured in place because the injection molded plastic was too large to hold the lock nut on the bottom of the handle when tightening. I was able to hold it with some pliers and get it tightened though.The hidden fasteners that come with this kit are compatible in looks/size to the Trex ones, but I did find that the plastic is a bit more brittle. I had 3-4 split when the screw was tightened tight to the plastic, despite my drill clutch being turned way down and on the same setting the whole time. All in all, this is a solid value being that they’re still considerably cheaper than the big name brand.
