Generally, post anchors and brackets on amazon tend to be 25-75% cheaper than buying it on retail home improvement stores. The difference is usually manifested in lower quality materials and craftsmanship, if applicable. At least, that’s my experience buy 4×4 post brackets and others. I could bend the bracket flaps w/ my bare hands. The steel was thinner, weaker, and upon installation, the bracket caved in from the weight of the post. Not a lot, but enough to be noticeable. Understandably not something you want to see right after installing it with great effort.That said, I don’t notice that caving in with these. From what I can see, they are about the same as retail brackets in terms of strength and steel thickness. That’s why I’m bummed that the bracket holes aren’t staggered. That means that if you intend to use screws to attach it to the post, you’d drill at an angle. For nuts and bolts, you’d be fine, but a screw is easier and faster. There are newer screws on the market meant to replace the usual nuts and bolts that I was eager to try. They do include nuts and bolts though, so I guess that was their intention all along. Also, all the measurements and holes are in metric so plan for accordingly and check your tools. That’s why I was hoping to use lag screws actually. Just pick one smaller than the bracket holes and we’re off to the races. Still, very good value for what it is, as long as you don’t put something super heavy on it.

This single piece post base is made of heavy duty steel and has an actual inner size of 7 1/2” x 7 1/2”. There is a way to be somewhat flexible for an uneven sized piece of lumber. It’s great for pergolas and deck support. I like the fact that it has a 1 inch standoff from the ground base. That allows for water to seep away rather than beginning to rot your post. It has two openings on the bottom to allow for adjusting your post anchors. The anchors come with it and seem to be very sturdy. It has a very nice powdered black paint coating that should last many years and still look clean and sharp. It’s very easy to install, after you have drilled your holes into the concrete.

The steel base cut and folded from a single piece of metal and painted black. All hardware included (two concrete anchors, eight long wood screws, and instructions).The “8×8″ base fit my 7.5×7.5” post snugly and with no wiggle-room. The thickness of the steel is sufficient to anchor an 8×8 post and support the corner of my upper deck. Decent quality and functionality to give this post a prolonged life of no direct contact with the concrete as the wood was starting to decay around the edges touching the concrete pad. This painted product is comparable to the unpainted galvanized stuff available at the usual big-box stores -but at a better price. The black color does not stand out like the galvanized products of similar purpose and that is a huge plus in my. book.Nice product, good value for the money, easy to install = A+
