Quick portable antenna
I saw on YouTube a usage for such a unit for creating an antenna. I would remove all the string and use a spool of thin copper wire and fix it so I could wind the wire on the spool. I then would use the unit as an antenna by tying one end to a tree or post and the other end that contains the spool close to the radio. I would then use a tuner or adaptor to get the antenna tuned. It works great. It has 4 stops where I can tune the antenna by adding or shortening the wire. When done I wind it all up.
