Accurate (When Calibrated), but Sensitive Enough to Make You Second Guess Yourself
I bought this 5-in-1 stud finder specifically to locate studs behind the vinyl siding on my house so I could mount a window catio enclosure. The good news: when you get the calibration right, it’s dead-on accurate. The bad news: if you skip that step or get sloppy, this thing will have you wondering why you suddenly can’t find anything.⸻Build & FeaturesThe device feels lightweight but solid. The LCD screen is bright and easy to read, and the on-screen icons make it simple to switch between the different modes:• Wood Stud (center & edge)• Metal• Live AC wires• Deep scan• Joist/Pipe modeThe microprocessor chip seems legit — it processes readings quickly — but the sensitivity is a double-edged sword. If you don’t hold it perfectly flat and steady during calibration, it can throw off the reading entirely.⸻Performance on Vinyl SidingVinyl siding isn’t the easiest surface for a stud finder, but this one did the job. You just have to:1. Calibrate on a flat, empty section first (not over a seam).2. Keep even pressure and don’t tilt it.3. Move slowly. Too fast, and it’ll give you “phantom” stud readings.When I followed those steps, it nailed the stud positions and made mounting my catio a lot less of a guessing game. When I didn’t… let’s just say I wasted a few minutes thinking the house was built without studs.⸻Extra Safety BonusThe live AC wire detection actually works — I tested it near an outlet, and it caught it right away. works good on wallboard where there aren’t many other studs, pipes, electrical connections, BUT is easily confused when mixed materials behind walls & struggles with older plaster on lathe. Also a pain to have to continuously re-calibrate when lifted off working surface. I kept it but probably wouldn’t buy again.

Completely Unreliable – Missed Every Stud
I really wanted to like this stud scanner, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. It reported the stud location five different times, and I trusted it — I drilled five holes, and none of them were even close to hitting a stud.The readings were inconsistent and kept shifting every time I scanned the same area. I followed the instructions exactly, even recalibrated multiple times, but it still gave me wrong results.Now I have five holes in my wall for nothing. Definitely not recommended. Save your money and frustration.

Great upgrade at a value
Large display lines you up well for stud edge and stud center. Wallboard thickness setting is helpful if getting poor readings. Metal and power scan are smart to check before entering a wall and work well. Easy to use but DO read instructions as you press the side button until it beeps, then release it to start to scan, opposite of my old stud finder.

Does it’s job and great price
This stud finder was a recommended model on Amazon and it lives up to that. It’s small enough to be hand-held so easy to maneuver. It’s simple to use, durable, and gives you the area of where the studs are in the wall right away. I’ve used it a few times and have had no issues with the battery running out. I appreciate that it’s a great product for an affordable price – great value!

It works with patience
You have to really work it around the wall to get it to find studs, it’s not consistent, when I find a stud with it if I come back 10 minutes later it struggles to find the stud in the exact same spot. It did work and I did get a tv mounted with it though, my first time mounting a tv.
