great tacker
great product but don’t use it for carpet padding. you will need the HT-770 since you could use longer leg staple in that tacker. but after 4 years it has been very reliable.

1 good, 1 total fail
I am a contractor, I routinely use hammer tackers to tack up housewrap on exterior walls. I have two of these duo-fast HT550’s. The first one I got worked very well and I continue to use it. Unfortunately, the second one that I got jammed 60 times in about 1.5 hours, using Duo-Fast 1/2″ crown x 5/16″ staples. I was shocked and appalled to watch my employee run circles around me with the old HT-550 hammer tacker, while I spent about 50% of my time taking off my gloves in 5 degree weather, and unjamming the tool, over and over again, in the hope that “maybe it might break in…” I even sprayed silicone lube in it, and then took staples from a different batch based on the notion that maybe the batch of staples that came with the tool were mismilled. Not. Something was wrong with the manufacturing of the hammer tacker, plain and simple. Now when I pay a higher price for a “superior” caliber tool, I expect it to have sufficient Quality Control so that it will work reliably. Now if I waste 30 or 40 minutes on a job unjamming a brand new tool over and over again because of a manufacturing defect, the tool is already wasting enough work equity that it is becoming a big waste of money, in addition to a labor waste. All told, the second Duo-Fast HT-550 cost me about $50 bought from Amazon, and wasted about $30 worth of labor unjamming it OVER AND OVER. So I have to give this tool 1 star and strongly disrecommend it to anyone who uses tools to make money, and buys higher cost tools on the assumption that “you get what you pay for.”

Last one lasted 30 years
The last one I had lasted 30 years. They’ve made a few improvements.
