Not for fiberglass Excellent customer service.
Short version:I have changed my rating for this product due to exceptional customer service. It is fine for drywall and wood but not powerful enough for fiberglass in any quantity, which can result in overheating that permanently disables the tool. .Long version:My original rating for this tool was 2 stars because it overheated while cutting fiberglass and burnt-out and would no longer run at a useful speed. Amazon will not receive it back as a damaged tool.m that has bee used. And it is not meant to be fixed. as reassembly is impossible (a pet peeve of mine as I am often able to fix tools myself.From what I could find out from other sources, the damage due to overheating was permanent. I was very frustrated because it stopped my project and I was not impressed by their very basic website where I could not find immediate assistance.I’ve since learned on my own that the issue really was operator error: I asked too much of the tool given its power (and I needed use a carbide blade anyway so it wouldn’t have to work so hard). And then I was ignorant enough and impatient enough to not stop using it fast enough when it became hot. The take-homes from this experience are that:1- The tool is fine for cutting drywall and wood.2. This is NOT the right tool for cutting fiberglass in any significant quantity.3 If jt begins to overheat, immediately discontinue use until it cool back down.4. Disassembly is easy. But nothing in the unit is fixable and, more importantly, reassembly is not possible because 2 soring-loaded little clips snap up and are completely inaccessible and unable to be pushed back so the unit without damaging them, a requirement for the body to be received back by the housing.I have updated my original review of 2 stars because I received a reasonably prompt reply as a result of my contacting the company via the email form on their website. They were in touch within a day or so with emailed responses that were obviously from a real person who cared about making making things right.

Outstanding powerful tool with handy accessories, great until it won’t turn on
UPDATED REVIEW MARCH 2023: All of the stories about Avid’s outstanding customer service are 100% true. The company stands completely behind their product and is extremely responsive about fulfilling warranty service. I purchased Avid’s multitool in March 2021 and had exactly one week left on the warranty when the multitool abruptly refused to turn on. I reported the issue and got a reply from customer service the same day. They asked for a video documenting the failure, which I did, showing that it wouldn’t turn on from an outlet that was shown to provide power. Avid sent me a brand new replacement unit in two day’s time, and now I can finished my job. Avid’s tools are functionally quite awesome and it is so great that they stand completely behind their products. I respect a company that does exactly what they promise, no more and no less. I will be a repeat customer.ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is a powerful, sturdy-feeling oscillating multitool that should be in every homeowners toolbox. It comes to the rescue for some many ad-hoc renovations and repairs. I was trying to jam my jigsaw into a narrow space to trim some shims around a door frame without success, until I realized that this multitool could perform the same function much more easily. It’s narrow enough to work its way into many different nooks and crannies, and it cuts through hardwood like butter with the included blades. As a sander, it is powerful to the point you can use it for decently sized jobs.The Achilles’ heel of this tool seems to be that it is prone to dying without warning: I used mine lightly for a few odd jobs, and this morning it quit mid-job when it wouldn’t turn back on. I don’t know if this is an issue with an internal fuse or something else, but from reading the reviews it seems like a variety of people are reporting the same behavior. It would be nice if there was a way to service this ourselves if it is something simple like a fuse. I am just within the window of allowable warranty service, so I will reach out to the company and update this review with contact information for the company (which is surprisingly difficult to find) and my outcome.

Works very well. But the blades only work on this unit. Great design, comfort grip. Easy to use. Needs more versatility

Recently bought this Oscillating tool ( 3.5 Amps / 4.5 degree oscillating angle) and immediately started to use it for a job that was waiting for the arrival of this machine.I was impressed about the weight (yes, due to the weight there is not just cheap plastic and aluminum parts built into this product) it feels like a professional machine in your hand.Started up the unit and it has a nice “soft-start”of the motor. Smooth start-up and the unit “purrs” along.Utilized it for about 8-10 hours running time and really performs Worth to mention: During that time I used it for about 60-70 % of a light duty application.Of course it’s vibrating when you hold and work with it. But intensity of vibraton is pending on the weight of attachment you put on. You cannot counterbalance a wide array of oscillating weights in different frequencies. It’s all a law of physics. So it is what it is. Put some quality working gloves on and off-you-go.The variable speed provides a handy frequency range and works as expected.The attachments provided are basic, which was to be expected. If you need more sophisticated items, you have to get a seperate set, matching your application / needs.All-in-all: This machine is definitely getting very close to a professional one and I would buy it any time again, especially for the price it was offered at the time when I bought it.

It’s larger and heavier than my previous tool but appears to be solid and has worked well on the first few cuts. Variable speed is handy. Only marked down to 4 stars because one of the cutting blades was used when I received it. Not a big deal as I need more blades anyway.
