I had a plastic rafter square that wore out and I wanted an aluminum one. This one fits the bill. It is sturdy, well marked and seems square enough for my usage. For $22.00, getting both the 7” and 12” was worth it to me.

These rafter squares are very nice quality – they are well made in aluminum and all the measurements and information is easy to see since it’s printed with white paint. The measurements are accurate. All the edges are nicely defined with no sharp edges. I prefer using rafter squares for laying out and marking dimensional lumber like 2 x 4, 2 x 6, etc.. The T edge makes it fast, easy and accurate.There are a lot of different options on Amazon for similar products so make sure you get what you could use in a set since it’s cheaper than buying things individually. From what I can see, this set is priced significantly below most with a similar quality. You want to make sure that you get squares that are a darker color with white lettering. I have an old one that is just plain aluminum and it’s very hard to see the markings.
