Unable to Mount Cartridges
The product contained 4 fine dispensing tips, 4 extension dispensing tubes, 2 orange colored broad dispensing tips and two foam guns. There were no instructions or literature describing the use of, limitations or cautions about the system; the user is required to know how the system works.My examination of the spray guys showed them to be well constructed. The barrels of the gun and the body are constructed of well formed metal. The tip of the barrel is reduced in size (see picture) to allow for either the extension dispensing tubes or the fine dispensing tips to be attached to the gun. The pin, connected to the gun’s trigger and running to the gun’s tip is made of a polished metal and appears to provide a good seal to the barrel’s tip which would allow the gun to store an attached container of foam without dribbling form or allowing it to set and harden within the gun’s barrel (see picture). The gun is equipped with a rear mounted rotating knob to control the amount and size of the bead of the dispensed form. The screw connector for the cartridge mounting bracket is metal and very sturdy. Below the cartridge mounting bracket, there is a ball valve that can manually be opened or closed allowing an attached cartridge to be isolated or to feed the form into the barrel of the gun (See picture). The plastic extension dispensing tubes and tips are well made of a firm plastic and fit the gun’s tip snuggly. Overall, I was impressed by the gun’s construction and the associated parts.For testing, I used cartridges of both the expanding form type for filling cracks and the non-expanding form type for sealing around windows and doors where you don’t want the form’s expansion distorting the window/door frame. The cleaner cartridge I used for cleanup after testing allows it to attach to the gun by screwing onto the mounting bracket in an identical manner as the foam cartridges but was also capable of being used as a stand alone spray can to clean the outside of the gun. My observation was that the valve of the cleaner was slightly different in design from the foam cartridges.When I quickly attached by screwing down and tightened the expanding foam cartridge to the gun, I experienced a large amount of foam leakage around the cartridge mounting bracket (see picture). This leakage occurred during installation no matter whether I had the isolation valve open or closed or whether I simultaneously pulled the gun’s trigger while screwing down the cartridge. The leakage also occurred no matter the position of the dispensing volume knob being opened or closed. I was sure to tighten the cartridge in all cases but it did not decrease or stop the leakage of the foam from around the gun’s mounting bracket, forcing me to remove the cartridge or it would have quickly emptied the entire can.After removing the cartridge, I cleaned the surfaces and internals of the gun with the cleaning cartridge. It should be noted that the cleaning cartridge is attached to the gun in the same manner as the foam cartridges and successfully made a connection without leaking its contents. After cleaning, I also attempted to attach the cartridge to the second gun of the set and experienced the same results with a large amount of the foam leaking at the mounting bracket. After cleaning the second gun, I attached the non-expanding foam cartridge to both guns from the kit and experienced the same result with leakage of the foam from around the mounting bracket. Suspecting the potential of defective cartridges, I mounted both of the cartridges I had just used to test the kit guns onto another form gun in my possession. Both cartridges mounted fine without leakage and dispensed the form without any problems.My conclusion is that the form guns in this kit may have a design difference or requirements that was incompatible with the cartridges in my possession, but as there was no product literature supplied I can not say this with certainty. To the best of my ability and with the equipment at hand, I did compare the measurements of the connector valve between the guns in the kit against the gun that I had successfully used and all of the guns appear to be the same.Unfortunately, I can not recommend this product due to the inability to successfully mount cartridges of the type commonly found in stores. Due to the absence of any supplied product literature I am unable to determine if I would have had different results with other cartridge types or manufacturers.
