Accurate and Reliable Moisture Meter
As a licensed builder, I use this instrument to assess lumber water content. It’s always better to build with dry lumber. I like to use a moisture meter so I know for sure what I’m working with before starting a project. Building with wet lumber can lead to significant shrinkage and warpage as the lumber dries.I like that this meter has a protective cover for the probes. My old meter has exposed probes and I sometimes scratch myself or some of my gear. I find the moisture measurements to be accurate. The meter is straight forward and easy to use. I like that the meter comes with spare pin probes and removal tool. See my photos.This meter could be better if it had Bluetooth capability. A storage pouch would be nice, but I can find an appropriate pouch without any trouble. At the $25 price point, this meter is a fair value but some pinless meters are available for about the same price. 4 stars for ease of use and reliability. A storage pouch and Bluetooth would make this a 5 star unit.

Digital Pin-Type Wood Moisture Meter with Replaceable Probes,Backlit LCD,Flashlight,4 Modes for Wood, Drywall,Firewood,and ConcreteFor me, the decision to get one of these was to avoid the problem of shrinking wood when you are buying bargain basement wood.When wood dries it can contort in all sorts of weird ways. So you want to know how dry the wood is to know if it is ready to work with and be careful about buying wood that is really wet which could end up with a bow or flex you didn’t bargain for!Also the only thing I didn’t like about this is that it really doesn’t adjust by species say cherry vs oak. I guess that is way better than nothing, though!

Works great to measure moisture in various materials
Works great! Love that you can use it on various materials, like wood, concrete and drywall. I work in maintenance handling all the materials this measures so it’s very handy for me! I’ve tested it on all three and it works perfectly! Love that it’s backlit so I can read it in some of the dimly lit areas that I work in. The prongs are sharp so beware but they’re replaceable if they get worn out. The meter is easy to read and use. It has automatic shutoff so you don’t run the battery down. It’s very accurate and makes a good addition to my toolbox. I would recommend this meter!

Mine does not seem accurate
I have been running around testing everything with this meter. I have a sawmill and wood shop so a moisture meter is very important for me.Everything I have tested so far comes up to at least 15% moisture. Even my very old, dry work bench framing which is made of pine 2x4s. They are very dry and should read in the 2 to 7 % range based on humidity at the time.I have some very very dry pine boards that are about 2 to 7 % range, again based on humidity, and this reads 15%.It seems that this cannot go lower than 15%.

Simple to use and seems to work well.
This moisture meter is pretty simple pin type meter. Powered by a 9 volt battery, which it comes with, this doesn’t have a whole lot of options, but really these type of devices don’t need many. You basically can switch between hardwood softwood building materials. A few button presses and you can get the moisture level of most lumber. It seems pretty accurate from what I can tell, and it has a self-testing feature in the lid. Comes with a couple extra probe points and a wrench to change them. And also has a very small LED light, which can come in handy I guess, but it’s rather dim.Overall disappears to be a reasonable value well made moisture meter.

A Helpful Tool
Being able to see how wet or dry my wood is terribly important. Building with wet materials is a recipe for disaster. I take it with me when I head to the big box stores to make sure that my pressure treated lumber is dry enough for the job at hand. So far, it seems to be very accurate.

Pin Type Damp Meter… AKA “protimeter”. Can you casually slip the word into your conversation today?My wife lit up with excitement when I presented this gauge to her, for she has fond memories of her father’s protimeter. She immediately took to testing it, and these are the features she appreciated most:✓ Easy to use, thanks to its large, clear digital display and three coloured LEDs that indicate the presence of damp.✓ Measurements appeared to be reliable: when she retested different materials, the readings were consistent.✓ The ability to select the type of material being tested was a welcome addition.✓ Very good build quality, with responsive buttons, and an intuitive design.✓ Useful array of lights – the backlit display, and a single white LED for illumination, made it so much easier to check for damp in darker areas (far corners in the understairs cupboard).However, without her father’s professional, calibrated protimeter to hand, my wife was unable to test for accuracy. Although the meter was reliable, it is not possible to ascertain whether the product is reliably correct, or reliably incorrect!That said, we know that the professional meter incorrectly identifies our home’s composite floor as being damp. And so did the ALLmeter Pin Type Damp Meter, which is a promising sign.Based on her testing, my wife would recommend this protimeter.
